Postcards from Lincoln: A History Speakers Series

Classes

“…Without End, Amen”

Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the Room 155 (April 3 – 17)
with Dr. Steve Dunbar

Just in time for Easter season, Dr. Steve Dunbar is leading this special class on eternity. Each week we sing “…without end, Amen,” and pray “…forever, Amen.” But what does this mean? Can we even comprehend it? Join us this April as we awaken our sense of awe and wonder by exploring what “forever” means.

Miracles and Mysteries

Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in Room 155 (April 24 – May 15)
with Cristina Linder

This Easter season, join Cristina Linder as she leads a class on two of the greatest mysteries of our time: the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico, and the Shroud of Turin in Italy. Together, we’ll explore the history, the mystery, and the continuing impact each of these phenomena have to their surrounding cultures and worldwide faiths.

Into the World: The Acts of the Apostles

Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom (January 18 – May 16)
with Dr. Dave Moore

Dr. Dave Moore leads this new Kerygma Bible study exploring the Acts of the Apostles. The Book of Acts picks up where the Gospel of Luke leaves off, and it passes down to us the transformative events and personalities of the earliest church. All are welcome to take part and catch the wind that animated the first Jesus followers, while reflecting on its continuing empowerment of the Church today.

The Five Megillot

Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in Room 155 (February 21 – March 27)
with Pastor Jed Linder

Every year, Jewish communities around the world read each of these megillot (“scrolls”) during their observances of major holidays. In this class, Pastor Jed will be looking at each one of these scrolls (all books from our Old Testament), and their corresponding holidays. We will see how the Book of Esther kicks off the celebration of Purim each year, and the poetic Lamentations give voice to the voiceless on the Ninth of Av. Additionally, we will look at each of the three pilgrimage festival scrolls: Ruth (Feast of Weeks), Ecclesiastes (Feast of Tabernacles), and Song of Songs (Passover).
